Officers from the New York Metropolis Police Division (NYPD) have entered Columbia College as pro-Palestinian protesters proceed to occupy an educational constructing, in accordance with social media reviews. That is the most recent escalation in an ongoing demonstration that gained worldwide consideration and sparked comparable actions on campuses throughout the US after NYPD officers forcibly dispersed a protest encampment on the college’s South Garden virtually two weeks in the past.
Police in riot gear may very well be seen entering the occupied constructing, Hamilton Corridor, on high of an armored truck. Protesters have occupied the building since early Tuesday.

That’s the reason Univeristy statutes require consiltation with the school – statutes which seem to have been ignored since April 17, and once more tonight. We maintain the College management answerable for the disastrous lapses of judgment which have gotten us up to now. The College President, her senior employees, and the Board of Trustees will bear accountability for any accidents which will happen throughout any police motion on our campus.
Earlier within the day, police on the College of South Florida deployed what seemed to be tear gasoline to disperse a pro-Palestine encampment on that campus after the demonstration was deemed an “illegal meeting.”
