Grand Jury Declines to Indict Akron Police Officers for Traffic Stop Killing of Black Man

Eight Akron Police Division officers are again on responsibility after a grand jury determined to not indict them for the killing of a 25-year-old Black man throughout a visitors cease final summer time, Sarah Dewberry reports for CNN. On June 27, 2022, the officers tried to cease Jayland Walker for visitors and tools violations when authorities say that Walker fled the cease and, about 40 seconds into the police chase, a gunshot was fired from his automobile.

Walker then received out of his automobile and fled on foot, at which level the pursuing officers tried to unsuccessfully cease him with Tasers. Moments later Walker immediately stopped and turned in direction of them, prompting the officers to open hearth. An post-mortem by a Summit County medical expert discovered that Walker suffered 46 gunshot entrance wounds or graze accidents. Walker’s household has filed a lawsuit alleging the officers used extreme power and claiming there’s a “tradition of violence and racism on the Metropolis of Akron’s Police Division” and in search of at the least $45 million in damages.
