The Dominican Republic Public Prosecutor’s Workplace launched an investigation on Thursday into the alleged rape of a 14-year-old woman by an immigration officer.

Human Rights Activist Santiago Molina filed on Tuesday a felony criticism towards an immigration officer for the rape of a minor. The activist stated that within the early morning of April 5, immigration officers entered a neighborhood in Punta Cana by forcibly breaking into homes whereas trying to find Haitians. He added that the minor, whose mom was working early that day, was alone when she was assaulted and that there’s proof of the rape in response to a medical report, however the id of the officer hasn’t been clarified but as a result of the officers had their faces coated.

Molina indicated that this isn’t the primary time he has needed to file a felony criticism for rape and that undocumented Haitians are nervous for his or her security due to the best way they’re typically approached by immigration officers.

The Dominican government issued an announcement on Friday apologizing for what occurred, indicating that these accountable should and might be punished. Director of Migration Venancio Alcántara stated:

That is an outrageous and reprehensible crime. We guarantee the residents that if any of the immigration officers are concerned in such shameful violations, they are going to be terminated and handed over to the justice system to find out their innocence or guilt. We gained’t present leniency as a result of we don’t tolerate such actions, as immigration officers are instructed every day to deal with interdicted foreigners with respect, no matter nationality, as their mission is to implement Law 285-04.
