Police Chief Robert J. Contee III is retiring from his place on the D.C. Metropolitan Police Division and taking a high-ranking job on the FBI, Martin Austermuhle and Jenny Gathright report for DCIst. Contee joined the MPD as a cadet in 1989 and took over as chief of police in 2021.

“On behalf of our metropolis, I wish to congratulate Chief Contee on his retirement and thank him for his service to D.C. — for main MPD with ardour and objective. He has pushed our legal justice system to do extra and be higher,” D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser wrote in a press release Wednesday.
