UK citizen Joseph James O’Connor, also referred to as “PlugwalkJoe,” has been sentenced to 5 years in jail for a variety of cybercrimes, together with hacking Twitter accounts, cyber stalking, and orchestrating a fraudulent cryptocurrency scheme. Amongst his crimes was the 2020 hacking of the Twitter accounts of Joe Biden, Elon Musk, and Barack Obama. The FBI led the investigation, and U.S. Lawyer Ismail Ramsey emphasised that this case demonstrates that cybercriminals shall be held accountable for his or her actions. O’Connor’s offenses included unauthorized entry to Twitter accounts, SIM swap assaults on TikTok and Snapchat, swatting incidents, and threats towards a minor sufferer. O’Connor and his co-conspirators performed SIM swap assaults to steal over $794,000 price of cryptocurrency.
