The choice has been met with widespread criticism, along with her authorized protection, describing it as “discriminatory” and vowing to enchantment. Advocates for girls’s rights argue that the ruling displays the pervasive gender-based violence in Mexico and the nation’s insufficient monitor document in holding perpetrators accountable. Whereas acknowledging that Ruiz had been raped, the courtroom discovered her responsible of “murder with extreme use of professional protection,” suggesting that hitting the assailant within the head would have been adequate. Ruiz has been ordered to pay $16,000 in “reparations” to the person’s household. Girls’s rights teams have repeatedly accused Mexican authorities of retraumatizing survivors and failing to method instances with a gender perspective. The sentencing has raised issues about discouraging girls from reporting gender-based violence or defending themselves. Protesters in entrance of the courthouse demanded justice, whereas Ruiz tearfully thanked feminist teams and her supporters, expressing her hope to reunite along with her younger son.
