The Oklahoma Statewide Virtual Charter School Boardvoted on Monday to just accept the appliance for the institution of the Isidore of Seville Catholic Digital College. The varsity will function as a public constitution college, paid for by taxpayer {dollars}.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) stated they are going to be part of Americans United, a bunch that fights to make sure the separation of church and state, to cease the institution of the college. In saying their motion, the ACLU stated, “Our public faculties should be free from spiritual indoctrination and open to all college students.”
Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt praised the college board on their vote:
This can be a win for spiritual liberty and schooling freedom in our nice state, and I’m inspired by these efforts to provide dad and mom extra choices relating to their baby’s schooling. Oklahomans help spiritual liberty for all and help an more and more modern instructional system that expands selection. Our state confirmed that we are going to not stand for spiritual discrimination.
Reverend Clark Frailey, a member of the group Pastors for Oklahoma Youngsters, expressed concern over the vote when he stated, “The Oklahoma structure has particularly in it in Article 1 Section 5 that we are going to have faculties free from sectarian management. There’s a historic precedent for why we don’t help spiritual public faculties. Let’s not repeat the errors of the previous.”
