Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Minister of Justice Rose Mutombo filed an Worldwide Felony Courtroom (ICC) grievance towards Rwanda on Tuesday over Rwanda’s alleged involvement within the theft of pure assets within the DRC. The minister said that the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) had been collaborating with the insurgent group M23, which has taken management of the Northern Kivu space close to the DRC’s border with Rwanda.

This isn’t the DRC’s first accusation towards Rwanda. The same allegation was raised mid-last yr when 500 Rwandan troopers had been accused of helping the M23 rebels in attacking UN peacekeepers, however a Rwandan spokesperson denied these allegations. This accusation later re-emerged in December when a UN report accused the RDF of offering M23 with army reinforcements.

The ICC has been conducting investigations in Rwanda since 2004 and has prosecuted three individuals to date for crimes towards humanity. The ICC prosecutor Karim Khan isexpected to go to the DRC from Could 28-31.
