300 Incarcerated People to Judge New US Literary Award

A jury of 300 incarcerated folks serving sentences throughout six states will resolve who wins the Inside literary prize, the primary main US e-book award to be judged completely by incarcerated folks, Olivia Empson reports for The Guardian. The Inside literary prize was launched by Freedom Reads, the Nationwide E book Basis and the Heart for Justice Innovation. Over the subsequent few months, 25 judges can be supplied copies of the 4 books, every protecting a spread of topics or themes. Freedom Reads can even give each facility’s library an additional set for normal circulation, enabling different prisoners and correctional employees to be concerned with the initiative. The 4 books put ahead had been chosen by a variety committee of incarcerated readers, writers, and librarians. No initiative like this has beforehand existed within the US and the winner can be introduced in June 2024.
